Understanding Whiskey’s Increased Popularity

Jul. 8, 2016

2016 promised to be the year of whiskey driven by consumers’ interest in whiskey styles.* With the whiskey renaissance in full swing, Robert Rixman, Brown-Forman Field Marketing Manager, recently addressed Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania during Woodford Reserve Focus Days. Industry heavyweight Brown-Forman leads this trend.  Their continued commitment to their heritage while continuing to release innovations in the whiskey category keeps brands like Woodford Reserve in demand.

“Fueled by the success of ultra-premium brands, the North American whiskey category has been outpacing all other Total Distilled Spirits in sales over the last year,” said Brown-Forman Field Marketing Manager Robert Rixman.

Last year, U.S. whiskey production grew 7.8%, nearly reaching three billion dollars in sales.*** Woodford Reserve’s production and popularity is driven by its key ingredient - corn. All of the corn is sourced locally in Kentucky, including grain farmers from Shelby County and Woodford County. The product is then processed at the on-site hammer mills.

Woodford Reserve’s Master Distiller Chris Morris utilizes superior corn production process as well as allowing for the time, patience and sense of exploration of new terroirs to meet the demands and taste profiles of the consumer.

“The idea is to create new and different things with an artisan’s touch,” said Morris. “Things nobody’s ever done before while maintaining the essence of Woodford Reserve that everyone loves.”

To fully experience the newest, corn-influenced Woodford Reserve whiskey style, ask your Sales Consultant about the Master’s Collection 1838 Style White Corn.

Tasting Notes: 1838 Style White Corn was created by adjusting the whiskey’s first source of flavor – grain. The use of white corn instead of traditional yellow corn complements additional grains in the whiskey and allows for a sharper whiskey that’s lighter in body with a softer, sweeter, fruit-forward profile.****
