Harpoon Brewing Among First Recipients of Diversity and Inclusion Grants

Harpoon: Love Beer. Love Life.

Craft brewing thrives on diversity. Diversity in thinking, in flavors, in technique—they all help contribute to the multitude of craft beers consumers love today. Recently, however, The Brewers Association has taken some big steps toward increasing the human diversity in the world of craft brewing through several new grants to promote efforts toward diversity and inclusion in the industry. Our friends at Harpoon Brewing are among the very first to receive one of these new grants, which the company will use to support a Harpoon Craft Beer Employment Fair this fall.

We at Breakthru are proud to see our partners at Harpoon leading the way on diversity and inclusion in the craft beer industry, and we look forward to seeing the results of their good work soon. According to a statement from Dan Kenary, CEO and founder of Harpoon’s parent company, Mass. Bay Brewing Company, it is the company’s responsibility “as a leader in the craft beer industry to recruit a more diverse workforce and to educate everybody on how to foster a culture of inclusivity.” He added that “the Harpoon Craft Beer Employment Fair is an important initiative in a larger, ongoing effort to recruit more diverse talent into our industry and across our organization. We are thrilled to have this work recognized and supported by The Brewers Association.”

Mass. Bay Brewing was one of just six companies, nationwide, selected by The Brewers Association to receive one of these grants. The Association received more than 50 applications for these funds, with which Harpoon will soon conduct its Craft Beer Employment Fair. The event will be held in collaboration with the City of Boston's Office of Diversity, and Kenary said that other area craft brewers will be invited to participate. Additionally, according to Kearn, there will be opportunities for candidates to learn more about, and apply for, careers in all aspects of craft brewing—from sales and customer service to production, management and more.

Mass. Bay Brewing’s Employee-Owner and Vice Chair of the company's Diversity Committee, Kathryn Pruett, said in a statement, “We are committed to building a diverse workforce and a culture in which people of different backgrounds, genders and beliefs are encouraged and supported,” and one which “spans initiatives like our upcoming employment fair and, most important, how we work together every day.”

At Breakthru, we are proud to bring Harpoon’s portfolio of craft beers to businesses like yours every day. Talk to your Breakthru Sales Consultant to place an order for Harpoon today.
