Tito’s Announces “Project Stardust”

May 10, 2018

Tito’s is famous for a few things, like that their vodka is gluten-free, and the powerful images on their social media channels. But Tito’s is also known for a tireless commitment to philanthropy and improving local communities throughout the country. One of the latest initiatives from Tito’s is the new “Project Stardust” partnership with the photo-sharing platform Imgur.com. Together, Tito’s and Imgur will seek out Imgur users—also known as  “Imgurians”—who are making a positive difference in their communities, and honor one per quarter with a $5,000 award to help continue their inspiring work. Project Stardust is underway now through early 2019.

A Picture is Worth Five Thousand Dollars

For years, Imgur has steadily built up a reputation as the Internet’s preeminent source for memes, infographics, cat gifs and other vital imagery, all while building a community of users. “Imgur’s vision is to lift the world’s spirits, and we are building an entertainment platform that is special blend of community, authenticity and positivity,” said Roy Sehgal, Imgur COO. Imgur’s vision is particularly refreshing at this time, and one that complements Tito’s own commitment to community. “We’re gratified that Tito’s shares this vision and are excited to work together to honor these inspiring Imgurians from across the country,” said Sehgal.

Project Stardust has already selected its first award-winner, a user from Pittsburg, Kansas who goes by @thequicksilver. His “Upvotes for the Needy” series of posts led directly to several generous donations to several local charities, including the Salvation Army. @thequicksilver plans to use the $5,000 award to continue spreading positivity in his hometown by purchasing food and housewares for needy families. Tito’s and Imgur are currently on the lookout for next quarter’s “Project Stardust” award-winner.

"For the last 21 years, we’ve been fortunate to witness the power one person can have in their community,” said Nicole Portwood, VP of Brand Marketing, Tito’s Handmade Vodka. "We knew Imgur was the perfect platform to launch this project and inspire more people to spread the love in their own communities.”

Taking a Wide-Angle View

In addition to Project Stardust, Tito’s is also hard at work on other projects to improve communities throughout the U.S. Last month, Tito’s and the Cleveland Cavaliers raised $20,000 for cancer research. The donation came about thanks to Tito’s support for the Assists for a Cure program, through which Tito’s agreed to donate $10 for every assist made by the Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters this past season. Donations went to Flashes of Hope to help in the search for a cure for childhood cancer. According to a statement by the team, Tito’s delivered on their promise on April 18, handing over a check for $22,430 at the Cavalier’s home playoff game. Courtney Koenig, Tito’s Ohio Area Manager, presented the check to Lisa Cencula, Chief Marketing Officer at Flashes of Hope. Together, the two teams combined for a total of 2,243 assists in the season.

Tito’s was also on the ground in Massachusetts recently, supporting Clear Path for Veterans at a fundraising event for their initiative matching veterans with trained service dogs. Their Dogs 2 Vets program places trained emotional support dogs with veterans who experienced post-traumatic stress disorder and/or military sexual trauma, helping veterans to adjust and reintegrate into civilian life after their service. According to reports from The Sentinel & Enterprise, Tito’s donated $10,000 to the organization.

It’s no surprise that events like this help to raise the profile of Tito’s Handmade Vodka nationwide, but they also reflect the company’s commitment to being a positive force in the community, a commitment which we at Breakthru share.
