Fans of delicious beer and irresistible tunes have much to rejoice this year, thanks to our friends at Dogfish Head.
The Delaware brewers just unveiled their 2019 release schedule, and it is a beauty. An American beauty, to be more precise. Beginning in January, and running all year long, 2013’s Dogfish Head/Grateful Dead collaboration, American Beauty, will be back and available in wide release.
While some musician-inspired beers wind up about as appealing as a "Box of Rain," American Beauty has a reputation for a wide consumer appeal during its initial release in 2013.
According to Dogfish Head, American Beauty, named after the band’s 1970 album, is a hoppy pale ale brewed with granola and wildflower honey—ingredients originally chosen after reaching out to fans of the Dead for suggestions. The company also points out that the brew clocks in at 6.5 percent ABV, as a tribute band’s founding in 1965. Before now, you would have to be a “Friend of the Devil” to get your hands on this beloved and long absent brew, but for 2019 it will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles.
"We, at Dogfish, are inspired by The Grateful Dead’s music, along with their unprecedented ability to bridge long-lasting, meaningful connections with fans for decades on end," Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head, said in a statement. "We’re thrilled to collaborate with the Dead for a second iteration of American Beauty and hope fans of free-spirited music and independent beer will join in welcoming back this classic pale ale."
The rest of the 2019 calendar includes a full slate of other new and returning brews to tempt and delight beer drinkers all year long. Year-round releases will remain largely unchanged, with consumer favorites 60 Minute IPA, 90 Minute IPA, SeaQuench Ale, Flesh & Blood IPA, Namaste White, Lupu-Luau IPA, Palo Santo Marron, Burton Baton, Midas Touch, and Wood-Aged Bitches Brew all making a triumphant return, alongside new brew Liquid Truth Serum IPA.
In addition to American Beauty, Dogfish Head is bringing back even more limited-time beers, such as The Flaming Lips collaboration Dragons & YumYums, Punkin Ale, 75 Minute IPA, Raison D’Extra, World Wide Stout, and 120 Minute IPA.
But perhaps the most anticipated new addition will be SuperEIGHT, described by the company as "a vibrant red sessionable Super Gose … made with eight heroic superfoods including prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry and kiwi juices, with a touch of toasted quinoa and an ample addition of red Hawaiian sea salt" resulting in "delicious flavors of berries and watermelon and a slightly tart and pleasantly refreshing finish."
Another new entry will be The Perfect Disguise, which the company calls a "double dry-hopped American IPA brewed with German Chit malt, loaded with tropical flavors and a crisp Kölsch-like finish."
