Breakthru is proud to participate once again in the Green City Market Chef BBQ. Join us at the annual event on July 20th at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate locally sourced products from Green City Market farmers.

The Chef BBQ brings together more than 100 of Chicago’s top restaurants and beverage purveyors to offer guests a taste of the Midwest’s best.

As a sponsor of the Green City Market Chef BBQ, Breakthru has an exciting opportunity to support our city. The Breakthru Beverage tent will offer innovative, craft-inspired cocktails featuring base spirits from our brand partners and market ingredients from Green City farmers. In addition, we’ll be pouring ice-cold craft beers from our supplier partners including local breweries BuckleDown and Spiteful Brewing.

“We need to fulfill our part as a consumer and support our farmers. There is a long history that has shown farmers to be innovators. They make our community a better place, which gives us a greater quality of life. Most of all, it's what keeps us healthy and fed.”

In an attempt to reinvigorate agriculture on Washington Island, WI, brothers Tom and Ken Koyen began growing wheat intended for flour. Today, that wheat has grown into a select specialty grain for use in Capital Brewery's Island Wheat Ale and all of Death's Door Spirits products. Death’s Door’s namesake comes from the passageway between Washington Island and the Door County peninsula. From the beginning until now, Death’s Door is committed to working with local farmers to create truly exceptional spirits.

Based out of Evanston, IL, FEW Spirits prides itself as being among the few remaining handcrafted and small-batched spirits. They describe their distillation process as a new take on timeless techniques that “transcend the oft-ordinary taste we’ve all grown accustomed to.” FEW distills only the best grains, ages their spirits to perfection and bottles their products onsite in Evanston.

Papa’s Pilar is inspired by the relationship between Ernest Hemingway and the vessel that enabled him to travel across sea and encounter the many tales he later retold. Pilar was Hemingway’s muse, as Hemingway is the Papa’s Pilar rums. Hemingway was an adventurer, but “he was never a spectator.” Papa’s Pilar rums embody that spirit of exploration, that crossroads where “grit meets eloquence.”

Suerte Tequila uniquely maintains its authenticity, while simultaneously appealing to the modern tequila drinker. Using traditional methods including slow cooking at a low temperature, and the use of a Tahona, Suerte provides a “true artisanal Tequila experience.” Suerte Blanco consists of 100% Tahona-crushed Blue Weber Agave and boasts herbal, citrus and sweet notes with a smooth finish. Rested in stainless steel tanks for at least two months prior to bottling, Suerte is made to sip straight, to enjoy on the rocks or to mix into a cocktail.

Ballast Point began with a group of homebrewers venturing to make a better beer than what they’d experienced. At Ballast Point, they consider brewing beer to be more art than science, and they work by that mantra as they attempt to reinterpret beer. Some of their creations include a hopped-up porter and an IPA with habanero peppers.

BuckleDown Brewing considers the two most important qualities for greatness to be creativity and determination. That’s exactly what its two founders exemplified when they started BuckleDown Brewing in Lyons, IL. Brewing small-batch craft beer, BuckleDown’s founders make flavorful beers that they enjoy drinking.

Spiteful Brewing was founded by two longstanding friends who originally met at a hockey game. From homebrewing on a stove in their kitchen, to a now full-fledged brewery and team of four, Spiteful Brewing now brews, packages and delivers cans, bottles and kegs all across the Chicagoland area. They’re committed to “brewing proper beer and delivering it to Chicagoans, one case at a time.”
