Jan. 8, 2019

In what is becoming an increasingly familiar story, Diageo has once again been honored for their global efforts toward a business model build on sustainability and green practices.

For the second year in a row, Diageo North America has earned the Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine.

As a company, Diageo already has a reputation for excellence, bringing premium spirits such as Johnny Walker Whisky, Ketel One Vodka, Tequila Don Julio and more to businesses throughout the world. However, the company is also earning a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s largest leaders in sustainable, charitable, ethical, and green business practices. This latest honor comes to the company in recognition of their commitment to implement sustainable practices throughout the company’s enormous supply chain.

Erik Snyder, Diageo North America’s President of Supply & Procurement, said in a statement, "We are honored to receive this award for the second year in a row, acknowledging our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability as a priority within our business and our overall supply chain." He added, "North America has made impressive progress against global sustainability targets to reduce our environmental impact in the areas of water management, carbon emissions, waste sent to landfill and packaging."

Meanwhile, John R. Yuva, editor for Supply & Demand Chain Executive, said of Diageo, and the rest of this year’s award winners, that they "place a critical emphasis on green initiatives within their companies and supply chains,” and that this year’s entries were “examples of innovative approaches and impressive metrics of sustainability programs."

Diageo continues to invest in new technologies and processes to support its sustainability strategy, and to promote responsible practices throughout its entire supply chain. The company also collaborates with suppliers, other consumer goods companies, and industry associations including AIM PROGRESS, an innovative forum which allows for companies like Diageo to share experiences and information with others in pursuit of more for responsible sourcing techniques. Diageo also participates with the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) in order to improve supply chain and industry practices, as well as the Glass Recycling Coalition and the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable on water usage.

Yuva added, "We congratulate this year's honorees for their commitment to sustainability and recognize their tremendous achievements," saying they “serve as role models for supply chains globally to expand their reach and impact of green leadership."

We applaud our partners at Diageo for their devotion to sustainability, as well as their growing reputation among consumers as a company that cares.
