Crown Royal Continues Market Dominance with Two LTOs

Aug. 1, 2018

Crown Royal is one of the kings of flavored whisky.

Expressions and LTOs like Regal Apple, Royal Vanilla, Maple, Honey and Salted Caramel have taken over menus and store shelves from coast to coast, and two new LTOs from the flavor giant promise to deliver more wins for on and off-premise businesses.

These two new offerings, Texas Mesquite and 13-Year-Old Blender’s Mash, bring new dimension to the already rich portfolio of flavors offered by Crown Royal. "We're proud that our focus on experimentation continues to elevate Canadian whisky," said Nicola Heckles, Brand Director of Crown Royal in a recent statement. She added, "Innovation is where our distillers truly thrive.”

Innovations like these have helped to make Crown Royal the world’s top-selling Canadian whisky, and created a reputation for excellence among consumers.

Deep in the Heart of Manitoba

The Crown Royal distillery in Gimli, Manitoba, is a short 2,474.4 kilometers away from Austin, the capital of Texas, though that distance seems much shorter to anyone who has tasted the smoky flavors of Crown Royal Texas Mesquite. This innovation brings together barbecuing and whisky to mainstays of Texas living, using locally sourced Texas mesquite wood to infuse Lone Star flavor into Crown Royal De Luxe whisky. The resulting flavor profile is smoky and satisfying, like an evening spent sipping a drink while stoking the coals at a cookout.

"Texas continues to be a special place for Crown Royal,” said Heckles, adding “so it was fitting to create a variant that harnesses the loyalty of all those fans." To pay tribute to those fans, each bottle comes with a bit of Texas’ flair in the form of a signature box and bag that consumers have grown to know and love, but with the inclusion of red, white and blue hues.

Like any Crown Royal innovation, Texas Mesquite is delicious neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. Crown Royal recommends the “Texas Mesquite Mule.”

Texas Mesquite Mule:
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Crown Royal Texas Mesquite
½ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. agave syrup
4 oz. ginger beer
Directions:
Combine Crown Royal Texas Mesquite, lemon juice and agave syrup in a shaker. Strain over ice and top with ginger beer. Garnish with a lemon wheel or slice of candied ginger.

And it goes without saying that Crown Royal Texas Mesquite pairs exceptionally well with barbecue.

The latest edition to the Crown Royal Noble Collection is 13-Year-Old Blenders’ Mash, a corn-forward mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% barley malt. It is also the oldest age-statement release from Crown Royal. Nicola Heckles said “releasing offerings like 13-Year-Old Blenders' Mash, which is inspired by one of the five whiskies that makes up the signature Crown Royal Deluxe, will bring much-deserved attention to the growing super-premium Canadian whisky category."

The 13-Year-Old Blender’s Mash is the third in the The Noble Collection, and annual limited release from Crown Royal. It also took home a coveted double Gold Medal at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, following in the tradition of previous Noble Collection expression, Northern Harvest Rye, which earned Whisky of the Year in 2016 from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.
