Wilson Daniels Brings Italy Back to The US

Jun. 17, 2019

In 2014, Wilson Daniels hosted a series of exclusive tasting events around the country, promoting the company’s extensive collection of Italian wines and offering expert, insider information on the category. The event was a huge success with consumers and businesses, and quickly became an annual celebration for famed importer, known today as “Tour Italia.”

Held earlier this month, Tour Italia offered unparalleled access to one of the fine wine industry's broadest-reaching Italian portfolios during a multi-city celebration of events and tastings throughout the country. This year’s lineup toured through Boston, Chicago, Nashville, and Portland, Oregon. Attendees heard from some of Wilson Daniels’ own wine experts and to get to know 16 of the company’s top Italian brands:

From the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region

  • Villa Russiz

From the Bisol region

  • Bisol
  • Buglioni
  • Dal Forno Romano
  • Jeio

From the Veneto region

  • Venissa

From the Piedmont region

  • Elvio Cogno

From the Tuscany region

"We are continually inspired by some of the most prominent and esteemed producers in Italy, and very excited to introduce their remarkable wines to new fans," said Wilson Daniels President Rocco Lombardo. "The opportunity to share these distinctive bottles during Tour Italia is what drives Wilson Daniels' limitless passion for wine knowledge."

Italian wine is big business in the U.S., with forecasts from Italian economic research firm Nomisma predicting a 22.5 percent growth in U.S. sales by 2022, up from $1.99 billion last year to $2.49 billion in three years as Italian wines undergo a “premiumization,” and fine Italian wines take on a larger share of the market. Education and outreach, like Tour Italia, is helping to drive awareness and demand, as well as the three-year, $25 million national ad campaign announced by the Italian Trade Agency at last year’s Vinitaly expo.

Wilson Daniels is at the forefront of this new “renaissance” in Italian wine, and we are thrilled to be a part of this amazing time.
