Breakthru South Carolina's Whiskey Tour Raises Money for Local Charity

Nov. 12, 2018

The only thing better than a good old-fashioned portfolio tasting where you get to sample some of the world’s finest products is a portfolio tasting that also doubles as a fundraiser for an important cause.

Last month, Breakthru South Carolina’s annual “Whiskey After Dark” series made its way around the state’s most influential alcohol markets, making stops in Charleston, Columbia and Greenville, and the proceeds from each event went to nonprofits such as the Charleston Animal Society, The Charitable Plate and Poe Mill Achievement Center.

“When a business like Breakthru partners with Charleston Animal Society on events, it really helps to cut costs for us, which means more of the dollars we raise go directly to the animals,” said Jennifer Hayes, Director of Philanthropy for the Charleston Animal Society. “We would not be celebrating our five-year anniversary as a ‘No Kill Community’ if we didn’t have the support of partners like Breakthru.”

The Whiskey After Dark events are a prime showcase for our brands to make meaningful connections with local industry buyers and influencers.

“This is the perfect environment to introduce our product to whiskey lovers,” said Pamela Heilmann, Master Distiller, Executive Vice President, Michter’s Distillery. “I can personally speak to both on- and off-premise establishments and spread the word about all the efforts we take to make the best quality products.”

“Events like Whiskey After Dark are crucial for George Dickel because it's not just an opportunity for people to taste the whiskey but it's also an opportunity to educate them on the rich history and process that goes into making George Dickel,” said Kimberly Mahaffy, Market Apprentice – South Carolina, Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. “

“This is an effective environment in which to tell the unique story of our urban Denver distillery to savvy whiskey connoisseurs,” said Adam Taylor, Brand Manager, Mile High Spirits. “It's especially crucial in a competitive cocktail market such as Charleston to show how Mile High Spirits offers high-quality, small-batch spirits for a fair price.”

“Whiskey After Dark provides us a fabulous opportunity to showcase our products to a very important segment of our customer base—retailers, restaurants and bars,” said Gregg Snyder, Master Distiller, Grain & Barrel Spirits. “We are trying to resurrect this famous old Chicken Cock whiskey brand that sat idle for more than 50 years. It has a great history and is an excellent bourbon, and this event helped us tell the Chicken Cock story to customers and consumers.”

Thank you to all our brand partners for helping make the 2018 Whiskey After Dark tour a success, and for helping support local causes that mean a lot to the communities we serve.
