Celebrating its 10th year of donating to and volunteering with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania, distributor of many products carried in Pennsylvania's Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, presented a check on behalf of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) for $20,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The donation will enable the food bank to purchase and distribute approximately 1,300 turkeys for use during the holiday season to families in need.

“We are grateful to Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania for their much needed donation to help us provide 1,300 turkeys for families in need this Thanksgiving,” said CPFB Executive Director Joe Arthur. “We continue to have a huge demand for holiday food assistance. Now, more than ever, this helps families in need to have a turkey on their table for Thanksgiving.”

In addition to the monetary donation, 30 associates from Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania volunteered at the Food Bank and packing 720 boxes that will be distributed to seniors in need. In addition, the PLCB donated nearly 900 pounds of food from a food drive held at its headquarters in Harrisburg.

“On behalf of Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania, we are honored to help those in need within the communities in which we work,” said Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania President PJ Horgan. “This donation will help needy families in central Pennsylvania have a complete Thanksgiving meal. I am thankful to be alongside our dedicated team members and our partners at the PLCB to help this holiday turkey drive.”

Over the last 10 years, Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania (formerly Capital Wine & Spirits) has donated $110,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, enabling the purchase of more than 7,300 turkeys. Additionally, more than 200 Breakthru Beverage Pennsylvania employees dedicated 700 volunteer hours to the food bank.

Each year, the Food Bank receives thousands of requests for frozen turkeys during the holiday season. The goal of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's annual Holiday Turkey Drive is to receive 5,000 turkeys for distribution to area families. The food bank distributes frozen turkeys -- as well as the side dishes that make a holiday meal complete -- to hungry families during the holiday season through a network of 900 partner organizations in 27 Pennsylvania counties. Partners such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and senior citizen programs will either directly distribute the turkeys or prepare turkeys on site to serve their clients.

Those wanting to help our neighbors in need with holiday meals can make monetary donations to help provide meals for those in need by making a secure online donation at www.centralpafoodbank.org or mailing a check to 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Frozen turkeys and non-perishable side dishes can be dropped off at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
