Shelf Life: Beyond the 750ml Bottle

Dec. 18, 2017

Today’s consumers have wide-ranging needs when it comes to the amount they want to stock up on a given product.

For instance, if your customer is hosting a party, they may want to buy a larger-sized bottle of their go-to vodka that will serve a higher volume of people. Or if your customer is searching for a unique gift, a smaller-sized bottle of whiskey is an efficient and thoughtful offering.

Carrying a variety of sizes is becoming increasingly important to consumers, and recent sales data from Nielsen backs up the trend.

1.75L

  • 1.75L of vodka is the most frequently purchased size of the spirit
  • 1.75L is perfect for group serves, batching and entertaining
  • More than half of “multi-bottle purchases” includes a 375ml paired with a 1.75L

375ml

  • 375ml spirits product sales continues to grow every year
  • 375ml bottles of premium and super-premium spirits are the fastest growing price tier
  • 51% of spirits buyers purchase small sizes
  • 56% of millennials (most frequent buyer of alcohol) purchase small sizes

In addition to being a top-shelf gift, smaller-sized 375ml bottles are also ideal for consumers looking to explore the luxury spirits category. The smaller offerings allow buyers the opportunity to experience a new product – or several – with a minimum increase in cost, compared to a full 750ml bottle of a lower tier product.

So when your customers are skimming the shelves of your business for their favorite products, make sure you’re stocked with all of the different-sized bottles that will fit any occasion.
