Diageo Lands More Recognition for Sustainability

Jan. 7, 2020

Tradition is important at Diageo, and one of those traditions is winning the Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award.

This year brought the international spirits giant its third consecutive win for the prestigious award, which recognizes small, mid-size and large enterprises that leverage green practices and solutions to further drive sustainable improvements in their supply chain. As Diageo’s supply chain spans the entire globe, showing leadership in this area is an important way the company can make more positive contributions to the communities where it does business while inspiring other companies to follow suit.

No Short Supply of Ideas

Diageo has a strong reputation for innovation, beyond just the latest Captain Morgan or Crown Royal flavors. For years, the company has been a leading innovator in supply and demand chains, finding leaner and greener ways to do business.

"For Diageo, it's a priority to operate in a responsible and sustainable way every day, to protect and preserve natural resources and support our communities across our value chain, from grain to glass," said Pietro Di Pilato, Technical & Governance Senior Vice President, Diageo North America, in a recent statement. "It's a privilege to receive this award for the third year in a row, acknowledging Diageo's progress in achieving our sustainability goals."

A Demand for Sustainability

Naturally, sustainable business practices are a core focus for the Green Supply Chain Award. Now in their 10th year, the awards recognize those companies which are making more ecologically friendly or sustainable decisions a core part of their supply chain strategy. In addition, Supply & Demand Chain Executive looks closely to see which businesses, like Diageo, are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. This year, Diageo was praised for its efforts regarding both climate change and water,

"Every year our Green Supply Chain Award recipients demonstrate what is achievable in supply chain sustainability," says John R. Yuva, editor for Supply & Demand Chain Executive in a recent statement. "It is clear that while sustainability is not a new concept, there is always more we can accomplish."
