Brown-Forman Goes Gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition

Aug. 12, 2019

This is a golden age for our friends at Brown-Forman, literally.

The international spirits juggernaut recently picked up a veritable treasure trove of gold awards at this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition. The IWSC is—pardon the pun—the gold standard in world spirits competitions, drawing entries from nearly 90 countries. The competition is widely recognized as the international benchmark for quality, with more than 400 industry experts from around the world serving as judges for each category. This year, Brown-Forman’s single malt whiskeys had an exceptional showing.

John Higgins, Vice President and Regional Director for Brown-Forman, touted the wins in a recent statement, saying “once again the results speak for themselves [at] the International Wine and Spirits Competition,” adding that Brown-Forman “had 12 expressions win gold or better.” Among the biggest winners of the night were three of Brown-Forman’s most beloved brands: Benriach, The GlenDronach, and Glenglassaugh.

Benriach

BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2 Peated offered an unadulterated glimpse into Benriach in its most natural state, earning another gold medal at this year's IWSC.

The BenRiach's four cask matured 21 year old expressions, both peated and unpeated, walked off with gold medals for the first time at this year’s IWSC.

The GlenDronach

Consumers and whisky fans were excited to see the The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 Years return in 2018, and this year marked its first entry into the IWSC competition since its return. That entry proved to be well received, and the expression was awarded Gold Outstanding at IWSC.

The GlenDronach Parliament Aged 21 Years won its first Gold, along with The GlenDronach Peated which has been awarded this accolade for the second consecutive year.

The GlenDronach Original Aged 12 Years, on the other hand, took Gold for the fifth consecutive year at the IWSC. According to Brown-Forman, the expression is a “testament to this expression’s enduring quality and embodiment of The GlenDronach’s richly-sherried and full-bodied Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.”

Glenglassaugh

Perhaps the biggest jump of the competition was Glenglassaugh Evolution, which had previously won silver and silver outstanding awards over the course of the last five years. This year, however, Glenglassaugh Evolution has now won a gold medal at IWSC for the first time and “continues to be a luscious example of the tropical fruit character of the distillery,” according to Brown-Forman.
