Breakthru IL and BUILD Chicago Wrap Up 2017 with “Adopt-A-Family”

Breakthru Gives Back Wrapping Event

As 2017 came to a close, we reflected on good fortunes and made time to connect with friends and family — and here at Breakthru Beverage Illinois, our longstanding mission to be a force for good in our community was also top of mind.

For the second year in a row, Breakthru IL proudly sponsored BUILD Chicago’s Adopt-A-Family program. This meaningful program provides at-risk BUILD students with at least one gift this holiday season. For some of these students, this may be the only gift they receive during the holidays.

“It is extremely exciting to see our values come alive as they did during the holiday season. Our associates throughout the state had opportunities to activate our values by helping others or giving back to the respective communities in which we work and live,” said David Lockie, president of Breakthru’s Midwest region. “The BUILD Adopt-A-Family program is a great example of this.”

Breakthru IL BUILD Chicago Wrapping Event

As part of our support of Adopt-A-Family, Breakthru IL hosted a gift-wrapping event where associates had the opportunity to take time before the annual holiday party to wrap all of the gifts collected for these remarkable young students.

While the holidays are often a reminder and celebration of abundance, for Chicago’s at-risk youth, it can be a less joyful time. BUILD’s mission is to engage these youth in the schools and on the streets, so that they can realize their educational and career potential, and contribute to the stability, safety and wellbeing of Chicago’s communities. BUILD’s youth face numerous obstacles on their path to a brighter future, and having a gift to unwrap can help end the year on a bright note for these students—and inspire them to stay on track as a new year begins.

“The impact which Breakthru associates have made to BUILD through participation in this program has touched hundreds of our neighbors in the Austin community,” Lockie said.

Thank you to all the Breakthru associates and BUILD volunteers who made this special event possible. We hope these gifts helped make the holiday spirit a little brighter for these students, and look forward to continuing the important partnership between Breakthru IL and BUILD Chicago throughout the new year.
