Breakthru Florida, Jackson Family Wines and Feeding Tampa Bay Combine to Help Curb Hunger

Mar. 1, 2017

Every year, Breakthru Florida partners with charitable organizations to address some of the most important issues facing our community. With 1 in 6 Tampa Bay residents struggling to eat every day – including 1 in 4 children – hunger is a dark dilemma in the Sunshine State.

This year, Breakthru, in tandem with Jackson Family Wines, is expanding a partnership with an organization that distributes nearly 40 million meals a year to local families struggling with hunger – Feeding Tampa Bay (FTB).

“Addressing hunger in our community head-on is a cause our Breakthru family is eager to help solve,” said Bob Drinon, Breakthru South Region President. “Feeding Tampa Bay, a leader in the fight to end hunger, is an organization we’re proud to support.”

Last month, Breakthru and Jackson Family Wines – including La Crema Winery – joined FTB to help pack bags for the “Backpack Program.” Through the “Backpack Program,” Tampa Bay school children struggling with hunger at home receive bags filled with shelf-stable, nutritious food to take home for weekends and school vacations. According to FTB, the bags come packed with easy-to-prepare meals and are provided to eligible children free of charge.

Previously, Breakthru and JFW partnered with FTB last December to pack meals for families in need during the holiday season. During this partnership, JFW has donated $5,000 to FTB, equating to 50,000 meals for Tampa Bay families.

Breakthru looks forward to continuing the partnership in March by providing wine and spirits to the Battle of the Bay, a culinary event where proceeds will benefit FTB.
