Great Rosé from Provence

The current cultural behemoth that is rosé has its roots planted firmly in the Provence region of France. Undisputedly the most prolific rosé producing region in the world, Provence set the standard for quality, color and taste that drives the ever-growing demand for rosé.

This Provencal Life
Roughly 2,600 years ago (2,597 years before the #RoséAllDay hashtag started trending) the Phoceans founded Marseille, and began a beautiful friendship, introducing France to the grapevine. This perfect pairing of plant and place established Provence as France’s first wine region.

Today, Provence is home to eight wine regions with AOC designations. The Côtes de Provence is the largest followed by Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence. Other significant wine regions include Les Baux-de-Provence, Coteaux Varois en Provence, Coteaux de Pierrevert, Bandol, Cassis, Bellet and Palette.

Rosés from Provence have a distinct flavor profile that separates it from the more sweet and fruitful domestic rosé. Typically displaying

a more pale, pink hue, Provencal rosé is known for a complex, crisp and dry palate. Made from local grapes such as Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre and Syrah, these wines naturally pair well with summertime staples like grilled chicken, fish and Mediterranean inspired pasta dishes.

Provence Blush is Booming
These versatile wines are especially in demand during summer. Lacking the intimidation factor of other French wine varietals, consumers are thinking Provencal pink in greater numbers than ever. Exports of rosé from to the U.S. have grown to represent 50 percent of Provence’s output.

"The phenomenon of the internationalization of rosé wines from Provence is accelerating," said Brice Eymard, leader of France's Provence Wine Council (CIVP) during a recent press conference in Paris. "Until 2010-2011, we exported very little, France was the main producer and consumer, but we now see the share of exports sharply accelerating," Eymard said.

With an unpretentious reputation, a wide variety of price points and packaging that consumers love to share on social, rosé from Provence deserves a generous footprint on any wine menu or store display. Contact your Breakthru Sales Consultant today to leverage this constantly growing trend.
