It’s been a big summer for consumer favorite Bell’s Brewery. The Michigan-based brewery was honored in June by Zymurgy Magazine, who named the brewery’s Two Hearted Ale the best beer in America for the second year running. The honor was bestowed upon Bell’s based upon the results of an annual survey of members of the American Homebrewers Association who are asked to weigh in on the best commercially available beer currently on the market.
Gary Glass, director of the American Homebrewers Association, spoke with Craft Beer about the award and its importance among consumers, saying “As brewers, the members of American Homebrewers Association can discern the subtle differences between a good beer and an outstanding beer.” Those discerning palates chose Double Hearted Ale for the top spot, again, but also gave a nod to Bell’s own Hopslam Double IPA, which landed fourth on the list.
While those two wins would constitute a great summer for most companies, Bell’s is determined to take their summer to the next level with new agreements to serve consumers in Denver and Boulder, Colorado. With the new agreement up and running, Bell’s will now be available in 40 states nationwide. Bell’s is excited about the addition of Colorado to their healthy slate of markets. Larry Bell, president and founder of Bell’s Brewery, explained the situation to ClickOnDetroit.com, “Colorado is a state that we hear from a lot and we’ve sent a few shipments over the years that have all been incredibly well-received. We are now in a position, from a resources perspective, to launch full-time." Bell added, "As we make our way west, it makes perfect sense to head there next."
