April 17th is Malbec World Day and here at Wirtz Beverage, we think the only proper way to celebrate is by honoring all that goes into this deeply delightful wine.

1.) Younger, fruitier Malbecs go best with charcuterie and cured meats while aged, big & bold Malbecs make a great match for steak

2.) A wine labeled with an indicacion geographica (IG), must contain a minimum of 90% of the grapes from the appellation labeled

3.) Malbec goes by many other names around the world including Cot, Auxerrois and Pressac

4.) When blind tasting, look for a bright magenta/pink-tinged rim as a hint that the wine may be Malbec

5.) The top three growers of Malbec grapes are France, Argentina, and Australia
