Hennessy’s Oscar Buzz

Hennessy is no stranger to exciting partnerships with world-class artistic minds--like visual artist and designer Vhils or musician and painter A$AP Ferg--and the iconic Cognac’s latest endeavor, an epic short film created by legendary filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott, recently took the stage alongside Hollywood’s best and brightest at the Oscars.

Conceived as a visualization of the odyssey experienced in every sip of Hennessy X.O, Scott’s opus, The Seven Worlds, explores Hennessy X.O.’s seven tasting notes, and the incredible sensory journey that awaits in each sip of Hennessy X.O. While the full film examines each note in detail, Hennessy shared a shorter, 60-second version of during a commercial break for the 91st Oscars® telecast on Sunday, February 24, 2019. According to Variety, this year’s awards show saw a nearly 12% increase in ratings from last year, reaching over 30 million people throughout the country and putting Hennessy and Scott’s work in front of millions of consumers

The film, and the shorter version, are just the latest in a long line of winning strategies Hennessy has employed to reach Cognac drinkers and adult beverage consumers in general. However, this partnership with Scott may be the Cognac titan’s highest-profile endeavor yet.

Studio Notes

Sir Ridley Scott is an accomplished filmmaker, behind such classics as The Martian, Gladiator, Alien, Thelma & Louise and Blade Runner, to name a few, and over his decades behind the camera he has developed a style as inimitable and rich as the very flavor of Hennessy X.O. itself. In this outing, Scott is offering a visual, creative interpretation of all seven of Hennessy X.O.’s tasting notes, as described by Hennessy’s Comité de Dégustation: Sweet Notes, Rising Heat, Spicy Edge, Flowing Flame, Chocolate Lull, Wood Crunches, Infinite Echo.

Scott said in a press release, “I was attracted to this project because I was inspired by the potential for art and entertainment to bring this story to life,” adding “Hennessy has a great product, and I was lucky enough to have the freedom to interpret this and create something amazing. I think people will be stunned when they see the film.”

A Seven-Tasting Army

To create this immersive cinematic experience, Scott drew upon the talents of some of the industry’s top talents, such as visual effects powerhouse Moving Picture Company, composer Daniel Pemberton, and Scott’s own production company, RSA Films, to produce the film. The resulting film is not just powerful messaging for Hennessy, but also a beautiful work of art in its own right.
