The National Retail Foundation (NFR) expects more than 171 million U.S. consumers to partake in Halloween festivities this year. AMERICANS LOVE HALLOWEEN, ESPECIALLY MILLENNIALS

As the costume-clad, candy-giving holiday approaches, more than 171 million Americans are gearing up to celebrate this festive holiday. According to Statisticbrain.com, more than two-thirds of consumers aged 21-34 celebrated Halloween last year.

MILLENNIALS LOVE WINE

Millennials drank more than any other generation last year, consuming around 159.6 million cases of wine, according to the Wine Market Council. That amounts to 42% of all wine drunk last year, with millennials drinking about 3.1 glasses of wine per sitting.

AMERICANS SPEND MONEY ON HALLOWEEN

According to the NFR’s annual survey, total spending for Halloween is expected to reach $8.4 billion, an all-time high in the survey’s 11-year history. The survey also showed that U.S. consumers are expected to spend an average of $82.93 per person, up from last year’s $74.34.

CONSUMERS ARE SHOPPING FOR HALLOWEEN NOW

According to the NRF, eight in 10 U.S. consumers will shop for Halloween by mid-October, with 44.4% of consumers shopping within the first two weeks of October and 29% already beginning their Halloween shopping in September.

SPENDING ON HALLOWEEN IS A GROWING TREND

It’s apparent that Americans are wild about Halloween, and that as consumers, they are willing to spend a lot of money on the fall holiday. Each year consumers have spent more and more on Halloween, with a steady increase annually. According to Statisticbrain.com, Americans spent $5.6 million in 2009, jumping to $7 million in 2011, and $7.95 million in 2015.
