Fetzer Grows with Excelsior Acquisition

Aug. 2, 2018

In the wine world, growth is everything.

Recognizing the importance of growth, both botanical and fiscal, Fetzer Vineyards recently announced the incorporation of the Excelsior Wine Company into its existing portfolio of brands, effectively making Fetzer the 12th-largest wine marketer in the United States, based on 9-liter case depletions. In addition, Fetzer is now the country’s premier source for South American wines, including Viña Concha y Toro’s Chilean wines and the Argentinean wines from Trivento. The deal also includes popular California brands Little Black Dress and Beckon.

The move is welcome news to Breakthru Beverage and we are excited to be bringing these consumer-favorite brands to our customers throughout the Breakthru footprint. Breakthru has a long history of delivering the best in South American wines to our customers, and this expansion will help our team facilitate our customers’ growth with these great brands.

New Bottles on the Fetzer Shelf

With the addition of the Excelsior portfolio, Fetzer’s South American offerings just got a lot more persuasive. The Excelsior expansion brings iconic brands like the aforementioned Trivento Reserve, Chile's most acclaimed wine Don Melchor, as well as the Marques de Casa Concha, Casillero del Diablo and Frontera. According to a statement from the company, the inclusion of Excelsior's wines will bring Fetzer Vineyards' portfolio to 5.2 million cases annually.

"We are thrilled to add this celebrated and diverse portfolio to our growing collection," said Giancarlo Bianchetti, CEO of Fetzer Vineyards. He added, "These wines further enhance the breadth of our offerings and allow us to deliver a variety of desirable brands—across multiple origins and in every market segment— for our valued trade partners and wine consumers."

Fetzer Favorites

The wines found in Fetzer’s existing portfolio are already among the most beloved by American consumers. Fetzer Vineyards is an award-winning home for wines made with an eye toward sustainable, organic and biodynamic grapes. Fetzer’s own award-winning Bonterra Organic Vineyards is a major leader in the organic, sustainable arena, as well as the strong showing of brands offered under Fetzer’s flagship label. Fetzer is also known for innovative wines such as 1000 Stories, the original bourbon barrel-aged wine, consumer favorites like Adorada, Anthony's Hill, Jekel Vineyards, Sanctuary Wines, and imports including Cono Sur and Viña Maipo.
