Breakthru DE Joins the Beau Biden Foundation in Fight against Child Abuse

In the midst of handling a 2010 prosecution of a notorious child predator, then Attorney General of Delaware Beau Biden called on his colleagues at the Department of Justice to begin developing child abuse prevention programs.
“As adults, we have the legal and moral obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being abused – they cannot speak for themselves,” Biden said at the time.
Ensuring that all children are free from threat of abuse became Biden’s passion up until his passing in 2015 after years of battling brain cancer. During his tenure, Biden was responsible for convicting nearly 200 child abusers and removing 120 children from abusive situations. In honor of his life’s work, the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children was created last year as a nonprofit committed to protecting children who have fallen victim to abuse and neglect.
Understanding that the education of Delaware’s population in child abuse prevention is crucial to building a strong, caring community, Breakthru Delaware is proud to pledge its support to the Beau Biden Foundation as a sponsor of the nonprofit. Through Breakthru DE’s contributions, along with other donors, the nonprofit will work statewide to educate locals on the various types of abuse.
The foundation has already made great progress in training 35,000 Delawareans in the last year, and is reaching even more people through partnerships with Darkness to Light, which trains adults to prevent, recognize and react to child abuse, and NetSmartz, which teaches kids about cyberbullying. The foundation also provides important resources to state attorneys working in the area of child protection and is committed to passing state laws and federal legislation that protect children.
