Breakthru Colorado Grows Beer Portfolio in 2017

Breakthru Beverage Colorado already has the company’s largest craft beer portfolio, containing breweries from across the country, but with a strong focus on nationally recognized local brands, such as Avery, Denver Beer Co, Great Divide and Odell.
With an eye outside of Colorado, Breakthru CO was thrilled to announce that Mevlin Brewing had decided to partner with them. Looking to bring a strong import into its portfolio, Breakthru CO also signed Costa Rica’s Cerveza Imperial, the world’s first water-positive brewery.
Cerveza Imperial
Imperial is the world’s first water-positive beer, a term used to describe a product that returns to the ecosystem more water than it takes from the environment during its elaboration process. It is a distinction that sets Imperial apart in a crowded import market, especially when sustainability is becoming a larger part of consumer buying decisions.
“Colorado is the only market in the country that currently has Imperial Silver,” said Ryan Mac Isaac, Breakthru CO’s Director of Beer Trade Development. “Imperial decided that Colorado was the perfect place to launch the Silver. More people from Colorado travel to Costa Rica than anywhere else in the United States and they all come back wanting to live the ‘Pura Vida’ lifestyle.”
Melvin Brewing
Since opening in 2009, the Wyoming-based Melvin Brewing has been racking up awards for its line of IPAs, hoppy pale ales and imperial stouts. Two of the brewery’s initial brews—Melvin IPA and 2×4 Double IPA—went on to win gold medals at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival, back-to-back Alpha King awards in 2012 and 2013, and a Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup in 2013 as well. Melvin Brewing was also awarded the 2015 Small Brew Pub and Small Brew Pub Brewer of the year.
“Despite being an out-of-state brewery, Denver is the top selling market for Melvin Brewing,” said Mac Isaac. “It is certainly on the eccentric side with over-the-top events and creative characters on the packaging, but retailers can be assured that Melvin will bring in excited customers who want top-quality craft beer.”
